I have had a quilt magazine from the year 2000, turned to the page of this quilt pattern, sitting in my office for years. I finally went to the Thistle (fabric store, Pierce City MO) and picked out these fabrics, and came home and sewed it up ! It's to as beautiful as the original, but those fabrics are LONG gone. Every seam in the block is curved - 16 blocks, 7 of which are just background. I'll quilt it someday!

Tees and shirts - Sept 19 and Oct 1

Image
Just as I perfected my tee pattern, nd preceded to make dozens of tees that actually fit me, I have now perfected my woven shirt with  gathers (or pleats) and convertible collar, and proceeded to make several. The lower left is a v-neck button-front with darts that is not quite perfected yet.  Note: all pictures in each group were taken the same day, and with the same light. Yet if you compare the colors of the door, you can see wide variations in yellowness.

So lately, I have got back a little bit to cross stitching. Designed by Anna Gutova for   artmishka It was all ready to go in the frame, but I could see the light- colored half squares at the tops of the dark windows. So I went back and stitched dark half-squares over the original colors. The original pattern had circle - triangle things between the upper windows, but I didn't like that, so I changed it. about 8" by 10"

my weaving beginnings

Image
A long time ago The Pierce City Arts Council had a class/display area in the buildings a block over from the Library. Various artists did classes. A friend of mine (a library patron who introduced me to SW MO Fiber Folks) did a class on weaving. Now, years ago Jerry had done some weaving classes, never got a loom, didn't carry through with it. Anyway, she loaned me a table top loom, and I took her class. First assignment was to weave 4 identical mug rugs. Well, I didn't. I did, however, weave 4 very similar ones, and this is one: All made from her supplied warp, and the weft was leftover sock yarns. Then I bought some yarn, and wove this: A while later, I took a class from Dorothy Cliff, in Granby MO. She also loaned me a loom owned by  the Fiber Folks. But for weft, she uses old sheets. Then I experimented weaving twill: I did enjoy it - but not enough, I think, to buy a loom and start an entire new craft.

Jerry made up a box for the cat, using a box and a tee-shirt or two. He sprinkled catnip inside. Now he refers to it as "the drug den"

Becca arranged for her and me to go to a Paint Your Pet class Dec 10 2015 They provided the paint and canvas. They drew some pencil outlines from a photo  submitted in advance.  We mixed our own colors and in 3 or so hours, all had reasonable portraits of our animals.

I know that I have been truly adopted by my newest cat, because, yesterday (6days after bringing him home), he followed me to the bathroom, and scratched on the door to get in.   He was rehomed from the niece of Jenna, my expert nail lady, who had him in an apartment that had a no-pets rule.

a new cat

Image
So, long story long...  I never look at the local Dog Pound FB page. But somehow, one of my friends reposted a few pictures of Gray man. I've wanted cat since my old lady cat got hit by a car, but I didn't want a kitten. I talked to Jerry, called the pound. They don't do cats, but post pictures to help people out. They gave me a number. I called.   It seems that this cat lived mostly outside with 4 other cats and at least one dog. His owner died. That person's son re-homed the others, and Grayman was left, alone, outside an empty house, and was fed twice a day. The son offered to get him neutered and vaccinated, and we picked up the cat from the vet.  As soon as he came out of the crate, he slunk downstairs, and then UNDER the stairs. He didn't come out for 30 hours. During that time, I took him some food, and he ate. The second time I took him food, He came to the laundry room, and actually let me touch him for a second. Now I have his food upstairs, and he slink

love my library

Image
When my sister and I were in 5th/6th grade, our mother was working.   We were allowed to walk to the library after school - 16 blocks !!  (uphill, in the snow or rain) .  We were able to stay there until she picked us up after work.   We weren't allowed to go anywhere else, or to stop on the way, or to get rides.  I spent a lot of time in that building, and loved every minute.  The summer after high school, I worked there in Technical Services, repairing books, filing in the card file, etc.  They tore that building down in 2002, but rebuilt in the same place.   (I wonder where they stored the books during construction?)  During my college years, I worked at the reserve desk at the University of Missouri Library.
